Sailing at French Bay is fun, social and competitive.
We have a great range of sailors – from adults and kids who are just starting out, to the grandfather of the fleet, a world championship level Masters sailor, and very competitive members of the national Jollyboat class. But on the whole, our emphasis is on affordable, enjoyable sailing… so whatever shape your boat and gear is in, and no matter how experienced you are, you will be able to get out there and enjoy sailing in good company.
The club’s sailing program includes:
- Junior Learn to Sail
- Junior Sailing and Coaching
- Adult Learn to Sail
- Adult Racing and Sailing
- Adventure Sails, including an annual Picnic at Cornwallis Beach
- O-Day at French Bay – free try sailing days for everyone
- Regattas – the famous French Bay Regatta, and, from time to time, regional and national championships
We have a mixed fleet and all classes are welcome to join in. The club also has several boats that are available for members to use on a first in, first served basis – a great way to get to grips with sailing before you invest in your own boat.
You’ll find our committee members to be helpful and a great source of information – please come along to racing (ideally at least 90 minutes before the race starts) and ask at the club kitchen or outside bbq area – the helpers there will introduce you to somebody who can assist with your questions, or email sail@frenchbay.org.nz
